If your computer is reasonably new and has 8 GB of RAM, using a dual-core, dedicated Windows'XP-based virtual machine for your web development ....is the way I like to go
Once you've figured out how virtual machines work, stepping up to something like openSUSE is a lot of fun!
Notes
- Windows is nice for people with high resistance to change issues
- Linux is a good way to get lots of cheap virtual machines running
